Thread, what’s it all about then? In a nutshell, Thread was created by the brilliant team at Fiasco, with a desire to bring the creative community of Bristol together through a series of inspiring talks, workshops and get togethers.
The inaugural event was with local animation power-house Aardman Digital and tech wizards Animade. Both walked us through a number of key recent and archive projects. The theme was to discuss how not to lose character and ensure that every story you tell has heart or can make you feel something. As technology advances it’s easy to focus too much on pushing the tech and in some instances losing sight of the emotion and the story.
Animade Directors Tom and James also discussed the subtle ways in which character can be injected into digital creativity across the board, above and beyond direct associations of anthropomorphism. Character is about the little playful touches, the thoughtful flourishes that give an animation, a website or an app that extra bit of personality.
Each Thread event is intended to act as a platform to help inspire and connect creatives from all walks of life. Designed and curated to facilitate discussion and encourage collaboration. It’s great to have regular events like these here in the South-West, and we’re already looking forward to the next one!
